We spent the day at a new playground and kite park in Berkeley.

Only in Berkeley would you find a park like this... everything is hand made and the kids are encouraged (with supervision) to build with hammers, nails, saws and to paint wherever they want. It is a huge area with 3-story forts, slides and a zip line. A little high maintenance but they kids really enjoyed it.

Alex on the zip line.
Notice the upscale playground structure in the background.

Practicing with the saw and hammer- thankfully without any injuries!
Although it looks more like a junkyard, the structures are regularly reinforced by adults so they are safe.

Enjoying a treat from the ice cream cart by the Bay.

Getting the kites ready to fly... this park right by the water is kite-flying heaven. The steady breeze from the ocean makes it nearly impossible not to keep a kite up.

Paris (with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background) flying the kite.
Mason was very proud to hold the strings- his kite is the one in the middle way up there!

1st I am little frightened by the playground thing :-)....I am sure the kids were in heaven.
What a gorgeous day to fly kites. Paul's expression in the first kite pic is awesome. I can not believe that Mason was able to hold on to the kite when it was so far up in the sky....were you worried he was going to fly away?

i cannot handle mason's body in that last photo. too cute. and that playground is unreal. here kid, play with a saw. but how fun for a kid to be able to do stuff that I would never let them do at home.
